Monthly Art Theme: February 2018
#1
Monthly Art Challenge: February 2018 Edition!

Here's the run-down on how it works. Every month, I'll (as you can tell, this is your friendly neighborhood VeloJello, filling in for the most venerable Sou) post a set of themes or parameters to follow. URPG members can make art, using any medium, and if it's posted during that month and fits the theme appropriately, they earn cash in addition to the Pokemon they're trying to capture, regardless if it passes or fails. Curators will also earn a bonus if they curate a piece of artwork in a timely manner.

For now, this is only applicable to artists twice per month as a trial period. If it works out, the limit might be removed. We'll see. Curators receive a bonus for all the art they curate, so long as it's in the correct time frame.
Curators, please address the theme when you curate a piece of work to tell the artist if their art applies to the bonus or not. Artists, please use common sense when fulfilling the themes. The art should incorporate one of the themes in an important/meaningful way to qualify for the bonus.

For example, if the theme is the ocean and an artist only draws one seashell sitting in the corner, this does not count for the theme. This goes for colors too—they should have some meaning and be purposeful, not just be there on a whim or by lucky chance. If desired, artists can type out a short paragraph explaining which themes they went for and why they think it fits that month's parameters.

**Note that the monthly theme only applies to capture attempts and not cash.

However, this bonus does count toward your Legend Tracker for both artists and curators.
Rewards

For Artists:

  • Simple or Easiest Rank – 2k
  • Medium Rank+ - 5k

For Curators:

  • 1k extra per piece
  • Must be curated before 1 week after the month ends

February Prompts

Genre prompt is still being suspended until further notice.

Ah, February, the month of slushy snow, waiting for springtime, and foisting various romantic-type trappings on loved ones! Love and longing are in the air as Valentine's Day closes in and those of us in the northern hemisphere fervently await from our icy wintertime prison. February is a bit of a black-sheep kind of month, being shorter than all of the other months, but hey, there's no reason why we can't spread the love in these 28 days! Rather than focusing on the mushy-gushy stuff, however, we're going to be taking a more general approach - this month, be thinking about how people can get along and show love to each other, be it romantic or platonic! And while you're waiting for the winter to end (and for those awesome post-Valentines' candy sales), think of the wonderful things to come!

In addition to Valentine's Day, February has historically been a month for many holidays - this year, we turn our eyes to the feast of Lupercalia, a festival in which the ancient Romans offered special sacrifices in order to purge the world of evil spirits and bring purity and fertility to the city of Rome. While we won't be delving into those rites very deeply, we're keeping these themes in mind for this month's prompts.

'Nother little did-you-know about February - its birth flower is the violet and its birthstone is the amethyst! While February tends to be pretty white-and-gray in my neck of the woods, it's a very purple month. Purple is a really fun color to work with, and we'd love to see it incorporated into your works this month.

Thanks to Lychee and Truly for their excellent suggestions!

Applicable themes are:

• Synergy/Pairs.
• Leap.
• Fleeting/Temporary.
• Patience.
• Hope.
• Feast/Sweets.
• Purification.
• Purple hues.

Feel free to post any art within the month of February including one or more of these things to receive the bonus. If you could, please put a [FEB] tag in the thread name or on the art pieces you want to count for that month. Remember, artists can only get the bonus twice. Once we see how this plays out, it may be adjusted.

Got an idea for next month? Share it in the thread!

EDIT: After speaking with Sou, it's been decided that an extra week shall be given in exchange for the lateness of this prompts list. You have until 3/7/2018 to complete prompts for this month!

Oooh! For March- what about Marching Bands? Pokemon making music, marching, or in uniforms??

Also I guess it's the beginning of spring, so, melting stuff?

Yanno what happens at the beginning of spring? Lots of new plant growth! What about first evolutions of plants or bug Pokemon?

Hmm what else happens in march...
daylight savings! And the spring/autumn equinox! Maybe something to do with the sun and moon cycles?
