Contest Section Updates
#11
January 6th, 2019

A bit late, but the Contest Carnival 2019 is now under way! Check it out here: CC2019

With it came a change to Contest Bosses: "we also have a new update for Contest Bosses: Scarves! The Berry Store Scarves have seen their ups and downs, but we want to give them a new purpose!
Scarves now award 1 extra point to a move in the attribute of their color at any time during a Contest Boss; the Scarf must be sent when the Pokemon is sent, and activates similar to Mega Evolution."

Additionally, I'd like to offer you guys insight into the current Contest Section timeline, in order of priority:

-RSE updates, as well as ORAS/DPPt functionality for the Ultradex.
-making the Carnival a success!
-DPPt/Festival incentivization
-massive sweep through movelists to find errors in both the lists and spreadsheets
-Contest Boss update

We thank you all for your contributions to the section, and look forward to the future of Contests! Thank you everyone!

January 11th, 2019

Another Carnival change: Ribbon Coupons can no longer be used on Normal Rank Pokemon, but they may be used on Master Rank Pokemon.

The Contest Carnival 2019 Scarf acts as any Normal Ribbon you own when making a Purchase, and may be used unlimited times. It may not be used for eligibility in a contest.

Hyper/Master Pokemon Price Reduction

Hyper Pokemon will be lowered from 35kCC to 30kCC, and Master from 50kCC to 40kCC. We think this will bring these Pokemon more in line with trade values, and we also believe that 1CC=1$ in terms of a hypothetical conversion ratio at the moment. We want these Pokemon to be hard to get but still attainable, and think that this falls more in line with that ideal.

ORAS/DPPt Functionality on Ultradex

We’ll be working with the Technical Team to provide ORAS/DPPt functionality to the Ultradex. It is in the final stages of development as we speak, and we look forward to implementation! We'll give a more detailed timeline when we have it!

Change to Contest Section Mentorship

Because Contest Mentorship erred on the hard side, and because we felt it inadequate in terms of mentorship goals, we've editted it to be the following:
( ) Mentee: Win at least two out of RSE Contest, DPPt Contest, or ORAS Contest
( ) Mentee: Defeat a Contest Boss
( ) Mentor + Mentee: Judge two Contests for your Mentee!
( ) Mentee: Participate in a Super Contest (Win or Lose)
( ) Mentee: Participate in a contest of each attribute

Any current Contest Mentorships will transition to this taskset, and any contests done during the mentorship will apply to this set.

What's Coming Next

To offer you all a glimpse of what we're working on, we have a few things coming up that we're excited to bring to URPG! These include:

-A June Summer Wheel, that will be modeled similar to the wheels in the past.
-A large overhaul on Contest Bosses.
-Further DPPt and Festival incentivization

How can we do better?

Let us know how we can do better in any Chief/Head Judge DMs!

That's all from us!

Thank you everyone for continuing to make the contest section great!

Judge wages will now be moved to a monthly wage. These will typically happen around the 1st of each month.

Additionally, Judge Tests will now formally pay 2k to the Tester.

ORAS/DPPt Functionality on Ultradex; Change to Spreadsheets

ORAS/DPPt functionality is on the way! The changes to the Infohub in preparation for Generation 8 will include this awesome update. Thank you to Elrond and the Technical Team!

Additionally, Copy/Copy All Moves will be renamed from Boost to Copy on the spreadsheets, and the spreadsheets will be gone through and checked in preparation for Generation 8!

What's Coming Next

To offer you all a glimpse of what we're working on, we have a few things coming up that we're excited to bring to URPG! These include:

-Generation 8 move additions to all modes.
-A large overhaul on Contest Bosses, which will be coming around December!
-An event planned for around January!
-A potential change to CC and Ranks, WIP.
-Further DPPt and Festival incentivization.

How can we do better?

Let us know how we can do better in any Chief/Head Judge DMs!

That's all from us!

Huge CC and Ribbon Requirement Change

Hey guys! As mentioned in my last update, we were looking at a CC and Ranks change! Well, turnaround went a bit quicker than expected but we're proud to bring it to you now!

Change to CC and Contest Payouts

All current CC becomes regular URPG Money, in a 1CC=1$ ratio. To convert your CC to money, please post in the Refund Thread (located here). Once Head Judge Gold likes your post, you're good to add it to your money!

Additionally, Contests will be changing the way they pay out. See below for details:

Current Pay:

Judges: $1,500 + $1,500 CC per contest.

Coordinators:
Normal Rank/Super Rank
First Place: $2,000 + 2,000 CC + Ribbon
Second Place: $1,500 + 1,500 CC
Third Place: $1,000 + 1,000 CC
Fourth Place: $500 + 500 CC

Hyper Rank/Master Rank
First Place: $2,500 + 2,500 CC + Ribbon
Second Place: $2,000 + 2,000 CC
Third Place: $1,500 + 1,500 CC
Fourth Place: $1,000 + 1,000 CC

Becomes:

Judges: $3,000 per contest.

Coordinators:
Normal Rank/Super Rank
First Place: $4,000 + Ribbon
Second Place: $3,000
Third Place: $2,000
Fourth Place: $1,000

Hyper Rank/Master Rank
First Place: $5,000 + Ribbon
Second Place: $4,000
Third Place: $3,000
Fourth Place: $2,000

Note that this is not an increase or decrease, but just an adjustment with CC's removal as a currency.

Also note that CC will not be accepted in the Berry Store anymore; you will need to convert it first.

Finally, the Starter Package will adjust for this change. The 5kCC in the starter package will now be replaced with an additional 5k$ (bringing the total to 15k$) and a Ribbon Coupon.

Changes to Berry Store and Berry Items

Additionally to this change, all TMs, Rare Candy, and DC Passes will be removed from Berry Store. Berries, Scarves and Pokemon may be purchased with regular URPG money (note that the Ribbon Requirement remains bar the change below).

Also, the effect of Ribbon coupons will be changed from “Reduces the ribbon requirement of a Pokémon in the Berry Store by 1 rank (doesn’t work on Pokémon requiring a Normal Rank ribbon)” to “When purchasing a Pokemon, consume a Ribbon Coupon in place of the Ribbon required (you still must have an eligible Ribbon to buy the Pokemon)”.

The Contest Pass (Removes the CC cost of one Hyper or lower Pokemon; still requires ribbon) will automatically convert into a Ribbon Coupon, and will no longer be accepted in the Berry Store.

Contest Boss TM Coupons will now apply to the mart, reducing any purchase by their value.

Master Tier Pokemon and Ribbons

Since the Berry Store is now a Ribbon-requiring Mart, the Pokemon available will be moving.

Master Ribbons are now no longer are used to obtain Pokemon, and are explicitly for prestige and Legend Progress.

The Pokemon in the Berry Store will now be assorted to the following values:

Conclusion

The main idea here was that CC as a currency has outlived its usefulness, and this change should make things easier for everyone; from newbies trying to get into the contest section, to the Judges earning wages. Thank you for your continued support of the Contest Section!

Been a while! This update isn't very big, but with the contest section getting back into the swing of things there are some things in the works!

Generation 8 Move Additions

Generation 8 Moves have been talked about and will be rolled out today! Bear with me as I add them to the Infohub and Spreadsheets!

Reminder of Abra/Gastly Change

A reminder that Gastly and Abra have had their prices adjusted up 10k, to compensate for being Demanding Pokemon. Their other requirements remain the same.

Changes to PayDay

Another reminder: PayDay has the additional effect of applying to PayDay Weekly Bonuses! Go get that money!

What's Coming Next

We'll be honest with you; the section being dead, and people going back to school, meant stuff got put on the backburner. However, with contests back on the uptick (from the Legend Event and PokeJobs release), we're going to get back into the swing of things. A Carnival is tentatively planned for this winter, along with a Contest Boss Rework around the summer. If there's anything else you would like to see on our radar, let us know!

New Year 2021 Changes!

Judge Pay

This has been in effect for a while now, but all contests now pay the Judge 4k!

Berry Store Changes

Another older change, but Berry Store Pokemon have changed to fit the following:

Normal: 5k + Ribbon
Super: 10k + Ribbon
Hyper: 15k + Ribbon
Abra + Gastly: 20k + RIbbon

A new addition to this change:
Berry Store mons will now function similar to marts, where their median trade values will be equivalent to their values in the Berry Store.

Ribbons will now add value to a Berry Store mon equal to the following: 2.5k for Normal, 5k for Super, 10k for Hyper

This means, for example, that Abra will have a median trade value of 30k.

IoA/CT Move Additions

These will hit the spreadsheets immediately. We'll be adding all the Generation 8 Moves to the movelist sheets very soon!

RSE
ORAS

Contest Emporium

This change will be released on February 1st. It may have some changes before then, but we wanted to make sure you all know it's coming!

In addition to this change, until February 1st, DPPt and Festivals are no longer valid game modes, and may not be run. See below for info on where they're going!

Contest Emporium

3 Stages of Development
Stage 1: level can offer anything and be wacky gamemodes, and is mostly for testing proof of concepts; no legend progress or ribbons will be awarded, but it will pay money
Stage 2 (Advance will start here): We expect these proposals to be a little more rounded out, and heavy testing will start here; contests can award Normal Ribbons and pay, and judging them will award legend progress
Stage 3: These modes are near completion, and will be assimilated into the Judging Encyc; these will be treated mostly as regular contests, and the people running them will transition stuff to the Chief Judges/Staff (for any relevant movelists/whatnot)

This allows people to experiment with what contest modes they WANT in URPG, while having an official way to go about it
Advancing through the levels will happen between Chief Judges every month or two, and will be based on how much people use the modes and how rewarding they've been
Ideas can stay at level one forever if you just wanna do fun stuff!
DPPt, Festivals, BW Contests, and Active Stats will be removed from Official Contest modes, and offered as "Open Source" Stage 1s for people to pick up and use if they wish.

Upcoming Changes

Contest Bosses will be getting a rework soon! The current rough plan is to have them ready by February 1st for a release!

The outcome of the discussion of Coordinator Legends, Master Ribbons, and a potential new Legend System will be announced soon! We're finalizing them in Game Design at the moment!

There will be a Contest Carnival in March. More info shall be forthcoming!

We will be revamping the Judgepedia soon too!

Conclusion

There's a lot we've had in the works that I'm really excited to reveal to you guys, and I look forward to the whirlwind beginning of this year where we start pushing these things out!

Contest Legend Changes 2021

Hey again! Just wanted to announce the second part of the above changes, since they've made it through Game Design now.

Farewell to an era

Most of you knew it was coming, but here it is.

Master Ribbons are now officially removed.

In general, the progression system has become a little too much to get into, and Master Ribbons pushed that to eleven. If we feel we can bring back Master Ribbons (as a cosmetic, perhaps?) in the future, we will be open to it, but for now, we are removing them as we adjust all of our systems.

The Cash Out

But Gold, you might be asking yourself, what about all the Master Ribbons people have? What are you gonna do about them?

Fear not, my cunning contest citizens: we're going to be cashing people out for their wonderful efforts!

The following people will be cashed out at the following tiers, where the tier listed is the Tier of Legend they may claim:

Tier 1: 10 or more (Gold, Mako)
Tier 2: 5-10 (Gray Nine, Xali, Ash, Rick, DP876, Bean, Mikey57)
Temporary Legend, for X months with X being number of Masters obtained: (Liam, DeKrueger, SinnohEevee, Juliorain, evanfardreamer, Sou, VeloJello, JohnBDM, Jack)

This cash out will happen immediately. Please make a post in the Legend Log linking to this post for your cash out.

New Objective-Based Legend System

To replace Master Ribbons as a progression system towards Legends, we're adding two systems to take its place: a one-time Objective-based Coordinator Legend, with another one-time Contest Boss Legend when that system reworks. Both of these will release when the changes from the previous post go into effect (February 1st).

Related to the cash out: if any of the Tier 1 people want to try the new objective system instead, they may cash out at a Temp for X months instead, and take part in that system. If anyone does not want a Temporary Legend, they may claim a free Berry Store Pokemon instead.
Additionally, taking a perma T1 bars you from the Objective Based system; taking a perma T2 does not. If someone with a perma T2 completes the reqs for the new legend, they instead upgrade their T2 slot to a T1 slot, and may exchange the legend as such (both on completion, and as usual during Legendary Ascension). Taking either option does not bar you from the Contest Boss Legends.

Objective Based Legend: Complete all of the following:
Beat a Level 4 Contest Boss, or clear both Tours' (this will be explained on February 1st) Level 3s.
Earn a Hyper Ribbon of all attributes in Any Official Contest Mode.
Earn a Super Ribbon of all attribute on one Pokemon in RSE/ORAS Contest Modes.
All the above Ribbons must have been earned AFTER this change took place, and must be presented with proof of that fact.

Contest Boss Legendaries:
Beating a Level 5 Contest Boss will reward a Tier 2 Legendary. (first clears only)
Beating both Level 5 Contest Bosses will reward a Tier 1 Legendary. (first clears only)

Finally, Contest Bosses may not be run until their rework, which likely will happen February 1st, if everything goes well.

Conclusion

Thank you everyone for bearing with us as we make such monumental changes to the Contest Section. I can't wait to see you all on February 1st when most of the changes go live!
