Ranger Post #16 Huntin'
Ranger: Drew "Beemo" Exient
Drew was surprised that Ivy elected to recall her Gallade, as he seemed to be completely fine after the brief altercation with Weedle. However, he knew that this mission wasn't over yet and that Pokemon needed their rest. He glanced down at the Poke Ball holding Dubwool and frowned, "I'm sorry buddy. I'll get you properly patched up here before too long." He grabbed another Poke Ball from his pocket and lobbed it in front of him. The capsule burst open, and a larger rabbit with a ring of extra thick fur around their belly emerged. She emitted a roaring chatter vocalization and smiled. Drew laughed and said, "Alright Zarya, we might need you to help us with something." The shiny Diggersby nodded in approval at her trainer's command. Drew then turned to face the hill and said, "Let's go Ivy. This mystery has to reach its end sometime."
They climbed up the shallow hill incline, with the hope that the extra elevation would help them see any sign of the mysterious Sunny Day user. The hill had no thick patches of grass at all, and in fact seemed almost trimmed perfectly to a nice light coating of foliage. It didn't take long for the party to reach the apex of the hill, although the hill wasn't that high to begin with. Drew lifted his sunglasses to allow extra light to interact with his eyes, hoping that was increase his vision sharpness. Zarya grunted, and was gazing around the area as well. The only movement in the grasses was the gentle sway from the light breeze. Drew lowered his sunglasses back over his eyes and pondered the situation. Turning to Ivy, he shrugged and asked with complete confusion in his voice, "So... you or either of your companions seeing anything out of the ordinary?"

The Ranger made sure his hurt Pokemon was secured away before calling out a large, furry rabbit with gigantic ears. Hopefully better to hear the culprit they were chasing down, since that thing seemed to be eluding them.
With Vergil resting for now, Haji took up his post beside her, though he was quiet as always. Still, it was nice having his solid mental presence next to her. It was sort of like having the fan or TV on for background noise.
They trekked onward, finally getting to ascend the hill they'd been meandering toward. Her legs could definitely feel it, but honestly, she welcomed some of this wildlife hike exertion. It was a nice change.
From here, the vantage was slightly better, though she didn't see anything mismatched. The lawn here was even pretty well cared for, like it had been trimmed to an even, manageable length. Sort of like a golf course, though Ivy had only had one incident needing investigating in a place like that.
Beemo asked her if either she or Haji noticed anything weird.
Ivy wanted to be able to say yes, but nothing struck her as out of place. Maybe it would have had she been more used to the Park again. But this place in particular was foreign to her. Annoyance flashed through her—she had been very good at being observant before, where even the tiniest detail out of place would trigger her brain. Now, it was like a new scene every time.
Maybe it was the expectation that she knew these places well still that got to her.
Ivy sighed. “Nothing,” she answered. “Which is maybe the actual irregularity here. It's almost too quiet and peaceful.”
Then again, that could just be her adopted paranoia talking because of the field work.

Ranger Post #17 A Hare-y Situation
Ranger: Drew "Beemo" Exient
Drew sighed when even his fellow Ranger didn't have a solid lead to go off of. Turning over to Diggersby, he smiled while laughing. "It's okay, this girl has a special trick up sleeve. Right Zarya?" The slightly pudgy rabbit gave a loud roar that almost sounded like a chuckle, and then flashed a smile. Drew smiled in return and glanced over to Ivy, "Let's show our friend here what you can do. Use Bounce and then Body Slam yourself into the hill!"
Diggersby nodded and began to hunch herself down before springing up several dozen feet into the air. Drew made sure to keep his eye on the rapidly diminishing figure, as he didn't want to be the spot where she landed. The Ranger could barely make out Zarya's unique coloring and features as she reached the apex of her jump. Not even a second later, the large rabbit began to become larger to Drew's view. He could even make out the outlines of the wind that was being generated by the free-falling Pokemon. Knowing he was safe from the impact, he glanced over to Ivy again to see if she was watching. He could only spare a moment before the rabbit slammed into the hill, creating a shockwave that reverberated up Drew's body. He reeled for a moment, but he was used to using this trick to serve a means of echolocation.
Sure enough, his plan worked as the area just off the hill approximately 300 yards away in some very tall grasses began rustling considerably. "Aha! There's our culprit! I know it! Let's go!", Drew excitedly exclaimed as he and Diggersby began running down towards the area which had been disturbed by the shockwave.

Ivy Frost
-
Not to be undeterred, which she remembered from being on the job, the Ranger had some other ideas. Their target was still eluding them, hiding somewhere in the environment. Really, at this point, she was more curious than anything else. What was playing this game of hide-and-seek with them so diligently?
Beemo called out another of his Pokemon, a rabbit that was roughly human-sized. She was very sturdy and fluffy, however, with large ears that looked more like arms. With a call and a wave, she went to work.
Ivy had had vague interactions with Diggersby before—they tended to get the land better than even some grass types. On her travels, she'd met some that worked in gardens and green houses. Helpfully, Haji provided those mental images for her, pulled from both of their minds.
The setting sun, rows and rows of carefully-tended vegetables. Having a drink with the cooperative owner after solving their problem of product disappearing. It had been a good time. They'd had a pair of Diggersby that had helped till the land and tend to things.
With a bend down to touch her ear to the ground for bracing, Beemo's rabbit sprung up in a mighty leap, up into the air. Ivy tracked the movement with her eyes, having to throw her hand up to shield them from the sun. Habitually, she took a few steps back to give some space, and she felt Haji do the same. He was also looking. Though oftentimes, he didn't need to “look” with his eyes to tell what was going on.
After a few seconds of air time, the rabbit began her rapid descent so much so that the air whipped around her. With a mighty boom, she slammed into the ground.
The reverberations swept through the ground under her boots and up through her bones, spreading out in a circle from the landing point. If she hadn't known better, she would've said something had fallen in the distance it was so powerful.
All of them kept their eyes peeled for any sign of motion after the rabbit's technique—looking for anything disturbed by the rumbling. She felt the prickling against her mind as Haji did the same, though he could reach a greater distance using his mind.
“Aha!” Beemo suddenly called, pointing to something in the far distance. When Ivy looked, it appeared to be some longer grasses shaking more noticeably than the wind could do. It was a few football fields away, but they all didn't waste any time.
Diggersby and the Ranger took off running immediately. Ivy shook her head at the youthful energy. She wasn't sure if she had that sort of constant gusto anymore—maybe when she working.
It was a good thing they were getting closer to solving the mystery though. They'd been here a few hours and the daylight was burning. She remembered many times where she'd taken so many runs per day that she was here incredibly late, finishing up runs when it was dusk or even in the dark. Not so much anymore—or at least the idea wasn't quite as appealing. Maybe she was getting old after all.
“You are not that old,” Haji supplied helpfully.
Ivy shook her head. “Yeah, yeah,” she said. “You're only saying that because that makes you even older,” she ribbed. She felt both Haji's amusement and amusement brush against her mind.
Then they both took off at a job to see what they had been chasing all afternoon.

Ranger Post #18 The Culprits Revealed!
Ranger: Drew "Beemo" Exient
Drew rummaged through the tall grasses just off the base of the hill, trying to find where Zarya had pinpointed the source of the disturbance. " The culprits have to be here somewhere...", the Ranger thought as his rabbit companion thumped alongside him through the grasses. Turning his head back, he saw that Ivy was keeping pace nicely with him through the surprisingly tall grasses they were trudging through. The loud rustling made it hard to communicate with her, as he was noticing the brittle nature of the foliage surrounding them. " This must be the result of whatever is causing the intense sunlight. Whatever it is, they're potentially damaging the ecosystem," he thought with a grimace as he continued onward.
The grasses seemed endless, until he stopped. There was a new sound emanating from right in front of the Ranger and Ivy. It sounded boisterous, as if they were enjoying something. The high-pitched nature of the voice puzzled Drew. Slowly, he kept walking a little bit further and the grasses started to clear again. Gently pushing aside the area in front of him, he eyes locked onto the tiny yellow kernel and a slightly larger plant Pokemon with a viney body. The little kernel Pokemon was laughing, as the larger Pokemon was doing mysterious dancing around it. Confused, Drew tilted his head and kept watching silently. After a couple of seconds of laughter from the little Pokemon, it began to glow with a brilliant light. The light then left its body and elevating into the sky, causing the heat to raise exponentially again. Having stopped dancing for a moment, the larger Pokemon gave a warble of joy at the increased temperature and waved its thin arms in celebration.
Drew was astonished, "The culprit is a Sunkern... Really?" Even Zarya was gazing upon the two Pokemon in confusion. The Ranger shrugged and turned to Ivy who was finally reaching the same clearing area. "So umm... what do we do in this situation? Looks like this Sunkern is our sunny menace," Drew asked the more experienced Ranger as he didn't know how to approach the mischievous Pokemon.

Ivy Frost
-
The grasses were incredibly thick as they passed through. Dragging against her clothes, they made a raspy noise as they scraped across the heavy fabric. These things looked parched. They'd even yellowed a bit, making them seem a bit sickly compared to their green neighbors down the way.
They grew pretty tall too. Several times, she lost sight of Beemo and his Diggersby, though with the heavy footfalls of the Pokemon, it was impossible to lose them entirely. Haji's mental presence was always a steady hum in her mind as well as his physical form right behind her.
Eventually, they made it into a clearing where some of the grasses had been cut or stamped down and they could see a little bit what was going on. It was here they found their culprits.
It was a lot warmer here, she noted, with the sun shining down. Maybe it was the enclosure, sort of how an igloo could really get to a moderate temperature inside too, insulating it from the outside forces like wind. But that could also have something to do with the Pokemon here.
“The culprit is a Sunkern... Really?”
Beemo sounded pretty unimpressed. Ivy sort of agreed. That wasn't the most... exciting of discoveries. However, it did make a lot of sense. These things tended to love the sun
Even as they watched, the Sunkern started to glow, hovering a bit above the ground as it filled the enclosure with light. Ivy had a squint a little bit to see it well.
Below it, a Bellsprout was doing a wave dance. She'd heard that they had festivals and other ceremonies in places like Johto where dances like that were important and wondered if they really were steeped in Pokemon history after all and not just some made-up human gesture.
Now the conundrum was what to do about it. She didn't want to fight with them per se—at least not in battle. But she knew sometimes these critters could be a little mischievous.
Ivy looked sidelong down at Haji who was also watching the scene, his forked tail flicking every once in a while behind him. He was surely taking in much more than she was.
Out of all of her team, the Espeon was the one who was the most mature and wise—herself included. If she wanted to talk to these Pokemon and get them to... not necessarily stop what they were doing, but at least stop doing it here, she thought, as she picked up a piece of dried grass that had broken off and flicked it from her vest, then he was going to be the best bet.
Levylyn still got too excited about being brought on important jobs and missions to keep a level head during negotiations. She might also try to show off, and that might startle these Pokemon, despite her being a Water-type. Looming over them with her height wouldn't help either.
And Vergil... well, he had as hot a temper as she did at times, and some days that line was very thin. He'd gotten a lot better over the years (and so had she, sort of), but he was also a dangerous-looking fighter who might scare them.
“Not to mention your own imposing figure in red,” Haji added mentally. He took a seat and tilted his head to look up at her.
It was only then that Ivy noticed she had crossed her arms. Yeah, he had a point.
“So what do you say?” she asked him in return, mentally. “Want to take a shot at asking them to move locations? They're really drying out the greenery here,” she added as she scuffed her boot against the ground to make a little dust cloud.
She felt Haji roll his muscles, felt his satisfaction of soaking the sun's rays into his purple fur. He liked the sun and often basked in it when they weren't working (and sometimes when they were). One of his deeper powers was able to control a tiny bit of fire, and a few of his other techniques worked pretty well in intense sunlight, so if there was a tussle that came to, he'd probably be alright regardless.
“So you would like them to move?” he clarified.
“Yeah,” she answered out loud this time so the Ranger would be privy to her plans. “Let's ask them to maybe not be so... centralized with their activities, due to the state of the grasses. However,” she added, looking about, though there wasn't much to see with how high the foliage was, “I don't want to damper their fun too much. It's not necessary to stop. Maybe if they rotated spots? Looked for flowers and other plants that need a little more sun boost?”
Ivy wiped her brow. The sun was making sweat start to bead on her skin. “Just so they don't kill all the plants already here by drying them out,” she said. Her vest was starting to get uncomfortable too after traipsing around all afternoon.
Haji got up from his sitting position and did one of those long feet-reaching stretches that cats did before trotting forward. “I will do this,” he told her mind-to-mind.
The Espeon stopped with a fair bit of distance between him and the wild Pokemon—he knew better than to startle them, and he tended to fight better from farther away anyway. She felt him reach out with his Psychic powers, but focused as he was, she was not privy to his conversation other that brief flashes of emotion and thought that weren't specific.
“Well, maybe this will work,” she told Beemo. Almost out of habit, her arms crossed again for something to do with them. “I haven't known Sunkern or Bellsprout to be particularly territorial, but you never know. Maybe they'll like the idea of tending after flowers in other locations?”

Ranger Post #19 A Tense Exchange
Ranger: Drew "Beemo" Exient
Drew noticed during his time monitoring the two Grass-Type Pokemon that Ivy and her trusted Espeon were almost invisibly communicating with each other. Glancing over at Diggersby, he saw that she was too busy digging up a small area of grass nearby looking for vegetation to consume. He sighed and went back to gazing at the two mischievous Pokemon. He had given Ivy some time to consider what to do about the situation, and it appeared she was deep in thought. The two targets were too busy having fun torching the sky with faux sunshine to notice the small group who were trying to do something about them.
Ivy finally announced that she was going to have Espeon try and persuade the two Pokemon to move elsewhere and prevent any further damage to the grasslands they were in. Drew pondered for a moment at Ivy's reasoning behind her idea and shrugged. "I mean, I don't think these two would be overly territorial. Then again, clearly they don't really care about what's going on around them either," he whispered as Espeon began slowly approaching the two little Pokemon to commence the plan. Staring at the Sunkern in particular Drew continued, "I have a bad feeling there two aren't going to like their fun being interrupted."
Haji the Espeon reached a close enough distance to communicate with the two without being within some sort of strike towards it. Instead of vocal communication, Drew noticed that the two Grass Pokemon had stopped what they were doing and were silently glancing over in the direction of Espeon. Puzzled, Drew surmised that telepathic powers were being used to speak with the two. The sounds of high-pitched laughter having stopped was somewhat unsettling, as the eerie silence of the discussion permeated the area. The only thing making the situation even more uncomfortable was the searing heat associated with the recent Sunny Day. Drew had to wipe sweat off his brow in order to maintain a clear visual on the situation.
What seemed like several minutes passed before some sound began to reach Drew's ears. The sounds he heard were not good though, as they were coming from the two delinquents. They were starting to motion defensively, and shouting in the direction of the psychic fox Pokemon. Drew tensed up and knew the situation could turn at any moment. Whispering over to Ivy, Drew expressed his concerns. "Ivy, these two are not liking that idea you suggested it appears. I don't like where this is going."

Ivy Frost [Haji]
-
Things are not going well, exactly.
But they are not noticeably bad, either, Haji thinks.
From his place mid-field, he is an appropriate distance to respect the wild Grass-type's space yet also serve as a barrier between them and Ivy. That part is key.
Not that he believes these two are up to any permanent harm, nor are they necessarily aggressive. It is just... noisy. As he tried to connect to the troublemakers, it is just a jumble of noise. They are infinitely distracted, as if they are shouting and laughing even in the mind. It is quite jarring, though he shakes it off alright.
However, his attempt to contact did at least catch their attention, and they stopped the over-energized motion to look at him. It was quiet, so much so that the wind through the dried grasses was audible again though his normal ears. That just reinforced the necessity to make them understand the impacts their folly could cause. The environment was important to Ivy and thus to him as well.
The consequences of the Pokemon dabbling was already apparent—his fur was thoroughly warmed by the sun's rays above, though they did not bother him. In fact, it was quite the opposite. He often soaked up stray power given from the light, and even now, tendrils of energy swirled under his skin and rose to the surface, ready to reach up and heighten his own ability. He could truly grow into something much more.
But that was not necessary yet.
He could feel the growing ire, the wild Pokemon's hesitance before they started chittering at him. The connection was not entirely clear, especially not with both of them reacting at once, just gauge impressions of what they were feeling, as was the unforeseen circumstance of being of Psychic type. That was not always something one could control and un-feel, as it were. But it was nowhere near the strength of he and Ivy's bond, with whom he could communicate like crystal.
Haji's brow furrowed as the Bellsprout made clear an insulting implication and gestured in his direction. That was unnecessary.
Behind him, his ear twitched as the human Ranger showed his worry. “I don't like where this is going,” he said. Haji wasn't sure it was going anywhere just quite yet—or at least, he would try not to make it go any further than needed.
But as expected, Ivy was not idle.
The ground crunched under her boot as she took a step forward and said, “Hey, you leave him alone! You punks are the ones hurting the ecosystem here!”
It was not quite a yell, but it was drenched in ire. Ivy had quite the temper when it was allowed to boil over. Not unlike the young Gallade.
In a bid to qwell the rising emotion, Haji cleared his mind. Like drops in the pond on a quiet, still night. With a focus of his mind, he let the calm wash over him, slowly pulling that coolness upward and let it soak into his bones. Then, he pushed that energy out—it would not be enough to reach everyone, not with this technique at least, but with Ivy so close, she could perhaps feel the edges of it. Maybe the Pokemon too.
His mind crackled with clarity, with the energy suddenly spinning there. Using that power, he reached out to try and speak to the plants once again, while things were not terrible.
“I do not understand why you cannot simply migrate locations,” he pushed out, tone even keel.
He implored them to understand. “This extremity is dangerous to the plants here. You will drain them of all life until they are brittle enough to break into dust.” Haji pawed the ground, and too easily the soil gave way and dug up dirt that was too pale and dry to grow things.
As they had walked into the brush, the rasp even against his own fur was apparent and loud. Synching the noise he remembered, he tried to resonate the same crackly sound from his mind to theirs. This place was so beautiful as it was, lush with flowers and other vegetation. It would be a shame to see that disappear.
“This place will not be enjoyable for anyone—not you nor others—if you continue to abuse it so long.”

Ranger Post #20 The Final Breakthrough
Ranger: Drew "Beemo" Exient
Drew could tell Ivy meant business as she started letting her frustrations out at the two mischievous Grass Types, which startled him with her sudden determination. " This must be the type of care that Rangers should exhibit," he thought in awe as he shifted his attention back over to the tense standoff between the hooligans and Haji. The fox Pokemon had been twitching, almost as if his temper was starting to trigger given the situation. Drew could feel his emotions starting to spike as well, probably from the Psychic energy that Espeon was exerting over the field. However, this unsettling hostility gradually vanished, and Drew could breathe easier. Haji was exhibiting a new sense of calm, and that peace was resonating through the field.
Even Sunkern and Bellsprout had stopped goading the Psychic Pokemon and had their gaze locked onto his. Their once angry expressions had pacified as if Espeon was using his telekinetic powers to speak with them without making a sound. Several silent seconds followed, all while the pseudo sun above them all continued to shine brightly. Drew knew this situation had to be diffused quickly, otherwise, some of the grass would surely start on fire.
He was about to start walking over to the two Grass Type Pokemon when they gave each other a serious look. Drew could tell something had changed in them, as their expressions had become much more solemn and sorrowful. They shifted their attention back to Haji, who was still staring at them with a look that combined stern disapproval while also showing a certain level of concern. This resulted in Sunkern beginning to cry profusely. Since its attention was no longer on maintaining the heated ball in the sky, it evaporated back into nothingness. The temperature of the field became much more bearable, giving everyone in the standoff a much-needed sense of relief.
With the sun dissipated and their fun having been stopped, the two troublemakers quickly turned around and rushed into the high grasses once again. Their rustling could be heard for a few seconds afterwards, slowly fading until nothing was left except for the sound of the gentle breeze blowing around Drew & Ivy.
A deep sigh of relief followed from the male Ranger, happy that they were able to prevent a significant Park disaster from occurring. With a wry smile, he glanced over to Ivy and held his hand up in a thumbs up fashion. "That was alot more confrontational than I thought it would be. Let's say we return to the Ranger Station, shall we? I'm hot, sweaty & need food now," he halfheartedly joked to the more experienced Ranger. He held the Pokeball containing his recently injured companion, " We need to get you medical attention too buddy."

Ivy Frost
-
Ivy saw red.
It was hard not to—not when these wild Pokemon weren't listening to Haji when he was being pleasant and reasonable. She didn't speak all Pokemon tongues, but she hung out with them enough to know that the little Grass-types were being majorly disrespectful. Like to the point of threatening violence upon the Espeon.
Even if she knew that wouldn't get them very far, it still made her mad.
She knew the anger wouldn't help, even as it seethed beneath her skin. But boy did she feel it. Her cheeks were warm, and her fingers tapped impatiently against her arm where they were crossed. Vergil and she wouldn't have clashed so badly if they weren't so alike at their core. It was a good thing one of them matured a little bit.
But, as usual, it was Haji who had control of the situation. She felt his energy flex a little, noticed when the soothing vibe reached the threshold of her own energy field (not that she could really tell where that was, only when Haji interacted with it. It was pretty easy for him to see and feel, apparently). The effects were pretty rapid—her hotheadedness dipped a few degrees.
Instead of continuing to yell at the wild Pokemon to little effect, Ivy pursed her lips and narrowed her eyes as Haji took care of things.
He really did have the best “dad stare” that she'd seen. He always looked so level-headed and sounded so reasonable that it was a wonder you weren't doing what he asked of you already. At the same time, he was able to pull off a very dignified disappointed look and tone. It was magical.
And it seemed that even though the two Pokemon had been stubborn at first, Haji's chill eventually won them over. In fact, the sun faded out as the Sunkern plopped back to the ground. And then it started to cry. Whoops.
It wasn't a few seconds later that the Sunkern darted off into the brush. The Bellsprout followed before anything else could be explained.
Ivy felt slightly bad about it, as she rarely believed any Pokemon had truly malicious intent. Devious, yes. But purposefully harmful without some sort of behind-the-scenes driving force, no. The Sunkern might have a bad day today, but sometimes even wild Pokemon had to learn hard lessons. Better now when young, in the formative years. Otherwise it would have an even tougher time as it got older.
With the mystery solved, the Ranger gave a thumbs-up. He had his Dubwool's ball in hand; it would still need medical attention. And they needed sustinence too.
“Lunch sounds great,” Ivy said, stretching out the last syllable as she stretched her arms high in the hair. To herself, she sort of mumbled, “And a drink.”
Haji returned to her, and upon his approach she crouched down so they were on the same level. Carefully, she ran her hands on the side of his face. He wasn't a pet, and she didn't treat him as such. But she liked to show him her care as often as she could.
“Thanks,” she told him. And it was about more than just today. He made her life so much easier that there was hardly a way she could express the magnitude of it. Good thing he could feel her sentiment. Haji was pleased too—that much she felt through their link.
“What do you say—should we head back to the outpost?”
“Yes. That would be pleasant.”
