Allen the Umbreon :: Synchronize
1/15
It was not that long ago that Miki told him about this place, and he decided that he would go over as soon as possible. And so as he descends the cliff, down to the shoreline, he stays alert for anything that catches his eye.

The annular patches on his body grow brighter as night falls, and by the time he reaches the bottom, it's completely dark save for the bright light from his luminescent rings, which light up the surroundings sufficiently. He's looking to find something that he can use in a fight, in case he does have to engage in combat at some point...

Which, he believes, is inevitable, as more and more creatures wash up on the island, some not exactly the most friendly...
Looking for some sharp bronze claw tips that fit my Eeveelution characters.

As the sun sets, the clouds roll in. It isn't long before the moon and stars are swallowed up by the encroaching storm front. And a storm is coming; Allen can probably smell the scent of water on wind before the first raindrop falls from the sky.

But the rain is gentle, at least for now, and Allen's way is unimpeded for several moments. Then he sees something up ahead - stone that juts out of the cliff face, forming sharply-angled, almost geometric ledges. There's no sand below, only more stone, basalt beach carved by chemistry and time into polygonal patterns that look almost deliberate.

As Allen approaches, he'll realize that there isn't any more sand left for him to tread. There is no shoreline anymore; there are, however, a few basalt platforms lower down that will permit him access to the higher levels, and allow him to continue further down the beach. The water is also fairly calm this evening; if he wants to move forward, he has his options. The going might not be easy, however. Those few drops of rain won't stay few forever. The storm is gathering now, and in minutes the harsh droplets falling on the sea will be falling on Allen.

P
erhaps he had not noticed the rainclouds approaching until he started descending. The light from his body dims as the moon is blocked by the incoming storm cloud. Nevertheless, he proceeds onward, not wanting to go back empty-handed. His body isn't exactly suited for climbing, but he makes do; he tries his best to look for something, anything that's washed up on the rocks.

And so Allen doesn't waste any time proceeding down the beach, though he exercises some caution as he briskly makes steps along the uneven ground. He's never seen this type of natural rock before, and he's somewhat suspicious that something - or someone - had done this, and it wasn't the natural state of the cliff face. But nonetheless he continues, not wanting to leave without at least something to make his trip worthwhile.
Umbreon probably have night vision in general, but Allen isn't used to making use of it.

The ground does not act in any particularly suspicious way. While these ledges certainly look rather strange, they aren't any more dangerous than standard rocks. There's only one real risk: the rain, its faint droplets slicking down the stones. It's not enough to make Allen fall, but it is enough to throw off his balance more than once, forcing him to stick close to the cliffside to avoid falling into the ocean below.

Before long, more sand appears, the beach stretching out from the rocks once more. Allen is free to continue following the ledges; they're a bit more broad here, with more ground for Allen's paws to grip. However, the narrow strip of sand is no doubt tempting ground, though there's little enough sand and the waves are getting high enough that following the low ground might be just as risky.

In the foggy edges of the night, something lies on the beach, wedged between cliffside and waves. It's hard to tell, but it seems like some sort of small hill, or perhaps a pile of detritus. Allen can see it a bit better if he focuses, though the rain is beginning to make it harder to see.

As much as he hates to admit it, Allen was never any good at making sensible decisions when he really wanted something. So it's with little thought that he decides to go along the beach. As he walks, he justifies it retroactively with the reasoning that there are more likely to be items washed up near the shore, and that's what he's here for, right? He hopes to be proven right when he spots the pile of... something, and starts to take brisker steps, his paws losing their grip several times but never actually causing him to fall. That is, until he reaches the thing-pile, and as he gets close enough to properly inspect it, he slips, failing to regain his grip though he tries, and he falls on his side. Oof.

Major Accessory: Metallic claw tips.

When Allen falls, his low vantage point gives him a great view of the objects around him. Sure enough, it’s mostly rubbish. There might be a passing familiarity in his mind with nails and bolts and tools, but he certainly wouldn’t recognize anything useful about them in their rusted, warped, and cracked condition.

However, Allen can feel something digging into his ribs. It’s not painful, but he can certainly feel a hard object pressing against his side, like he’s fallen onto a particularly large pebble. When he inspects further, he realizes that he’s lying on the blunt side of a small, sharp weapon.

A small layer of greenish patina has accumulated over the bronze. Time and weather have tarnished the metal, a coppery claw with hollowed-out insides and one single razor-sharp, curling edge. It looks like just the right size to fit on Allen's own paw and reinforce his own claw, as long as he puts it on with care. But there's only one here... maybe there are more somewhere else?

Allen gets up and places the claw tip onto his paw. Something about it implies to him that they came in a set, and that the rest must be here somewhere... right?

No, he knows they must be here somewhere - something is telling him. And not to mention unless he has enough for both his forepaws, he's not going to find a proper use for them, especially not in battle. And so the Umbreon continues along the beach, carefully pushing aside things that happen to be in his path. Now that he's found one, he won't stop until he's found the rest, and he figures the first place to search would be the nearby piles of... stuff, and trash that happened to wash up.

Major Accessory: Metallic claw tips.

Putting on a single claw tip throws Allen's balance ever so slightly. He's right to think that these belong to a set; just by the feel of it, one claw tip is definitely not something meant to be worn alone, especially not in pitched battle, where coordination and grace can save one's life.

The next claw tip makes itself clear relatively quickly - it's wedged beneath a pile of half-rotted rags, which takes Allen a fair bit of digging to pull up. This one, half-buried, seems slightly less corroded, and slides on with greater ease should Allen decide to don it now.

The night is deepening now; Allen's eyes are being strained to the limit, though a nocturnal creature like himself at least has the capacity to see. Something else glints along the seam between the stone and the ledge, but there are still more piles left to dig through that could hold more claw tips.

Allen picks up the second claw tip; it goes onto the corresponding claw on the other forepaw. He spots the glimmering object; suddenly feeling a strong urge to investigate it, he slowly makes his way towards it. The claw tips slowly feel more and more natural to walk around in, though they're not exactly the most natural, not with only one on each paw, but he's getting used to having that little bit of extra material at the end of each of his paws rather quickly...

As he approaches the source of the momentary light, the rings on his body pulse with a dim light as well. He's definitely got the feeling that something strange is about to happen...

Major Accessory: Metallic claw tips.

The faint white light contrasts sharply against something coppery, washing it out. A third claw tip has made itself known to Allen; at this rate, he should have a full set in no time -

The winds change as soon as Allen touches the metal. A light, cool breeze suddenly becomes a gust that subsides as quickly as it had come. For an eerie moment, Allen sees his own light reflected back to him, a silvery-white, taking the form of some sort of bird. The creature is long-legged, every feather on its wings sharp as a sword's edge; its talons, huge and nearly alabaster in the night atmosphere, gleam like pale reflections of Allen's own claw tips. Looking at the creature, who he might be able to name as a Skarmory, Allen is suddenly filled with a bizarre, inverse sense of familiarity. He is one of the most adaptable creatures on this island. But the Eevee that he and nearly all of his other forms came from could never become something like this creature.

Almost as quickly as it appeared, the apparition is gone. But the breeze has reversed direction, now, as if changed by the white phantom... and Allen can taste the scent of metal on it. The smell leads farther up the beach. He can't tell whether the metal smell is copper or some other metal, like the broken bolts and other baubles littering the Bluff. His nose might lead him to more claw tips... or away from the main stash. Will he follow it - and perhaps the illusion he saw? Or will he continue to investigate the scrapyard around him?
