Rhenlo's last excursion into the Bluff had been successful, but a little disappointing; he hadn't found the great weapon he'd hoped to nab from the clutches of Mautte, her bounties turned against her in a flash of steel little more than a pipe dream at this point. However, Rhenlo was not so easily deterred; once more, he wandered along the edge of the bluff. This time, he wouldn't be distracted by things near the bluff; today, he'd strike hard into the heart of Mautte, eager to take from her the same way she'd taken from The One.

This quality of Rhenlo was something The One took malicious pride in; this tenacity and willingness to fight the island made Rhenlo the perfect first host, especially while he was wrestling with his own pain and demons. The Heart idly worried The One, if only for Rhenlo's ridiculous attachment to it, but The One would either weed that needless link out, or use it to the collective's advantage. Either way, The One hoped they'd find a good treasure to snap up out of Mautte today; it'd be one step closer to the destruction of the island.

(( gonna go ahead and nab this since we talked about an idea for it :eyes: ))

On this day, a storm brews out in the ocean, sending a fierce breeze up into the pass that leads down onto the Bluff. Up above, the Jungle's trees raise a cacophonous cry, rustling viciously high up above. The waves crash violently upon the boulders, and the tide, engorged with the rains in the distance, sweeps up high to meet Rhenlo. Gray clouds sweep out like scouts for the black mass that writhes on the horizon, like demonic smoke twisting and turning over itself.

The Gengar floats down against the sand, and it becomes apparent that this day would not be made easy for him. Mautte expresses its displeasure with particular fury--the moment that the ghastly creature enters the Bluff, there's a crack like lightning up above. A massive jungle trunk that had been leaning up above finally slips, the sediment that held its roots against the rock finally losing its battle against the permeating moisture of the sea. The titanic arbol crashes with a terrifying boom onto the unyielding boulders of the bluff, sending a spray of splinters shooting violently toward the Gengar--!

Rhenlo heard the lightning, and saw the tree hurtling down onto the rocks. The tree crashed into the jagged stones as Rhenlo hid the Heart inside his ephemeral body; he wasn't going to chance any debris hitting and damaging it. However, the concern over the Heart was quickly outpaced by his concern over himself; the splinters had begun cascading towards him, in a malevolent spiral of sharp pointy doom. Rhenlo Immediately snapped his fingers to disappear into shadow form; however, Mautte's trickery had obviously run deeper than just sending this calamity at him, as he realized his body refused to disappear. Rhenlo panicked for a moment as the shards came closer; best case scenario, they'd pass through his spectral form, but with his inability to vanish came a distrust for anything to be as it should. Instead, Rhenlo extended his arms as his eyes glowed purple. If he couldn't disappear, nor move out of the way in time, he'd have to stop the splinters altogether. He reached out with his mind, using Psychic to try to catch the dangerous materials before they could come close.

Psychic powers surge from the Gengar's powerful conscience. The spectacle is captured in glowing lavender eyes--the exploding splinters drifting in front of Rhenlo's extended arms are instantly stopped in their tracks. The radius in which he manages to protect himself is perfect. To Rhenlo's sides, the needles of wood impact the sand with such force that they create small sprays of damp sediment that fly up harmlessly onto his ghastly apparition.

The danger fades, and with it gone, one can get a closer look at the assailant. The tree is tall but fairly thin, but there'd been something wrong with it--disease, or something worse. Its bark was an unhealthy gray. Most of its branches had snapped off instantly on impact, unable to hold the trunk's weight in their weakness. It bore only a few patches of green leaves and the rest were either withered or nonexistent.

Where the tree hit a boulder just right, its trunk has cracked in two as if begrudgingly leaving a path for Rhenlo, though not a welcoming one. Each side of the split trunk bares its teeth, sharp spears of wood pointing from its bulk and in toward the opening from where it messily split. Ocean wind whistles through the splintered cracks in the wood with an eerie wail not unlike the one he had encountered at the shipwreck previously. Thunder rumbles ominously in the distance.

The Psychic had worked splendidly, and Rhenlo marveled in his own workmanship. His power was growing, steadily but surely, and he especially relished in the fact that he'd stopped an attack by Mautte. He looked forward to the day when he brought the entirety of the island to heel; until then, however, it was time to continue searching for one of her treasures. The old tree had formed a nice, though intimidating, path further into the bluff; with the storm ragingg, Rhenlo didn't have much option other than to follow it, since his smoky form would evaporate if he tried to weather the winds above. Rain fell through his cloudy body as he walked forward, further into the cavernous deep.
