While delving deeper into the jungle, curious as to what lies within its reaches, she's struck by a feeling--one that infects her with a particular dread. It's that foreboding that causes another form to reveal itself.

Her white fur reflects the bioluminescence of the Menagerie. The darkness of the rest of the jungle at night had made this part's brilliant light catch her attention. It was full of strange plants that glowed with striking neon colors. Had she passed it in the daytime, she probably wouldn't have recognized that this bit was any different. She greets the new presence in her conscience affably. The Absol's is different than the rest. It's calm, like she's used to with her own thoughts, but it has a constant... edge to it. An uneasiness, like something foreboding is always around the corner.

She sits calmly amongst the towering plants as she ruminates over this new conscience, hidden and blended with the glow of their massive, leafy forms.

Rhenlo cursed the forest, relishing the image of it on fire in his head. Everything about the forest built upon the rage Rhenlo had been festering since his encounter with the lone Aggron on the beach; even the stops in the desert and mountains hadn't eased his malice towards the forest. Even the fleeting thought of the Aggron set Rhenlo's gaseous body ablaze, the energy quickly trapping itself within the cool embrace of The Heart. No matter how much energy Rhenlo put into it, it remained steadfast, not showing a glimmer of overuse; it still bound itself close to Rhenlo's body, however, which Rhenlo took the only sliver of comfort he could possibly fathom in. The presence of the Heart was the main thing keeping Rhenlo going; The One hadn't proven itself very useful in making it through the forest either time he'd traveled through it, nor in telling Rhenlo where to start on acquiring forms; Rhenlo realized that he'd been relying on The One a bit too much for knowledge, however, and it irked him that he became so reliant on others so quickly. And so he (metaphorically) trudged through the forest on his own, eager to find these forms and increase his power.

It wasn't long before he arrived in the Menagerie, though he hadn't really cared to notice the change in scenery; he did, however, notice the aura hidden in the bushes nearby. The aura was dark and brooding, but didn't seem to bear ill will. Before Rhenlo knew it, he moved forward and spoke, nearly smacking himself afterwards for giving away his advantageous position. "Friend or foe," he had muttered. Though Rhenlo was eager to destroy most of the Pokemon on the island, it wouldn't hurt to feign friendship for the time being, especially with something with an aura that huge.

Blue eye opens calmly as a voice sweeps through the plants. Unlike in her Aggron form, this one does not feel the need to lash out when met with an unexpected presence--this one simply turns its gaze toward it. Among the brilliant light of the plants is a shadow where a shadow should not be, drifting just above the ground, casting the terrain behind it with a dark purple aura in a way that's familiar. Io recognizes the figure of her sparring partner--they'd been well-met previously. The unease of her Aggron form is absent, now, and she doesn't need to fight her old discomfort. It's... strange, to be freed from her own memories like this.

"Depends," she answers evenly, voice calm, but then it lilts with an almost playful edge as she says: "What is it you consider me, Rhenlo?" The Absol turns her scarred visage and missing eye clearly toward the Gengar now, the bioluminescence of the flora around her fully illuminating the empty socket of her left eye. It's a ghastly wound, denting in her brow where her adversary's claws had once scored straight down across the optic.

Rhenlo was surprised to see the source of the dark aura; The One immediately identified it as an Absol, and also set off alarms. Apparently, Absol was dangerous against Pokemon like Rhenlo; additionally, they had no real tools to deal with one, and its aura was massive. They'd need more forms to even think about defeating one. However, what really startled Rhenlo was the voice the Absol spoke with; soft, but tough, and it identified him by name as well. Rhenlo stepped out of the foliage it had been using as cover to look directly at the Absol. "Io," Rhenlo said bluntly. He hadn't expected to run into the Aggron out here, nor had he expected that Io could change into an Abso-

Rhenlo nearly shouted aloud as the gears clicked in his head. Io had acquired forms! How?! Rhenlo could swear his color changed from the lackadaisical black and purple to a bright green, his envy for Io's awakening palpable in the air around him. He quickly regained composure, however; he wasn't willing to make enemies of Io just yet, especially not so close to her Absol form. "You look different." Rhenlo managed to stutter out matter-of-factly, hiding his knowledge of forms as well as his envy. "How?"

Io's grown so used to existing in her shifting duality of bodies that she seems to continually forget that not everyone is familiar with it. Rhenlo, however, doesn't seem scared or startled by it--instead, he seems more upset. The Calamity Pokemon observes the notable shift in his aura, a flicker so brief that she nearly considers that she has imagined it. Io doesn't hold it against him, however--brains and emotions were complicated in that way, especially when faced with the unknown.

"The island has brought us here for a reason," Io muses, the hooked horn attached to her features inclining upward as she gazes about her. "These bodies, these forms, are Mautte's acceptance of our presence here." The Absol turns her eye back to Rhenlo. He'd been here for a bit, but not quite as long as she and the rest who had lingered. "You will likely be accepted too, in time."

The island has brought us here for a reason.

Rhenlo immediately saw red, not necessarily of his own volition. The One was attempting to take over and attack the Absol; it took every ounce of Rhenlo's self-control to stop The One, and it got increasingly harder to not show outward hostility as the Absol kept talking. Rhenlo instinctively reached out to the Heart; it was then he discovered something truly interesting. The Heart devoured The One's hatred as well, sucking it up like a vacuum and pacifying The One as well as it eased Rhenlo's constant agony. Rhenlo immediately filed away this information as important; though The One had ultimate control over his body, he had the ability to fight back thanks to the Heart.

Not that I'd use it much, outside of situations like these, Rhenlo mused; he had resolved to carry out the will of The One, but he didn't want to make so many enemies so quickly, at least not yet. Io's blatant complacency towards Mautte made her an enemy in the long run, but especially now Rhenlo didn't want to show his true colors. And who knew, maybe she could be turned... Rhenlo was so lost in thought he realized Io had finished talking. "I see," he said curtly. There'd be time to contemplate what to do about Io later. For now, he was interested in forms. "What should I do?" Rhenlo said, intently focused. He wanted to learn forms as quickly as possible, after all; especially since he knew his didn't come from Mautte.

As soon as she says it, her entire body lights aflame. She flinches ever-so-slightly on the outside as, unbeknownst to her, her Super Luck activates. Every instinct in her body alerts her to some sort of danger, to a threat, but for once, the logical calm of her own thoughts overrides it. She eases back to relax, though she maintains her inward caution. Rhenlo hadn't done anything to make her suspect him yet, and to cut off the snake's head before it tried to bite seemed... reactionary. Io wasn't looking to make enemies here. She keeps it in mind, though, tucks it away for future reference.

What should I do? Io tilts her head, alabaster fur shifting. She thinks about it. "Wait and see," she suggests with a bit of a shrug. "It's for Mautte to decide. My first was gifted when I feel from the mountains to certain death. I grew wings, turned into a great fire dragon." Then there was the detached creature, the small bear with surprisingly impressive power. She looks over Rhenlo. "I wonder what yours will be." So far, it looked like everyone had found their own unique totem, their own unique first form.

Rhenlo had managed to calm The One down considerably, with the help of the Heart, before the Absol spoke once more. Wait? Rhenlo had done enough waiting, the thought of continuing to wait frustrating him to no end. He was behind now; he could see this plainly, and the mere concept earned his scorn. Rhenlo would have to work double-time to rectify that egregious wrong, then. For now, the Absol. "I see." he muttered dryly; he wondered if Io caught any hint of The One's fury, but so far he hadn't detected much in the Absol's voice or movements. If they found out, he doubted they'd attack first; these types always tried to understand the reasoning before they acted; in Rhenlo's mind, that made them weak in their hesitation.

Regardless, the Absol droned on more about Mautte. Rhenlo decided he should try to leave Io soon; he wasn't willing to keep listening to her rabble on about Mautte much longer, and he doubted he could hold back The One again. When he got his forms, it sure as hell wasn't going to be for Mautte to decide, and he'd make them all regret choosing the wrong side.

The answer the he provides is... surprisingly clipped. From the few she's told, she's received an array of answers, but all of them were some degree of fascinated or scared. Rhenlo, however, barely seems to flinch, offering a response so dry that she feels a metaphorical itch in her throat. Her brow twitches a little beneath white-capped fur, the slightest of skepticism flickering briefly in her singular blue eye before fading away. It's no matter; people reacted differently, felt differently about these things. Perhaps it would be something he preferred to ponder in quiet.

"Where will you settle?" she inquires affably, unable to detect his boredom with her droning. "Found a place you like yet?" Besides, it's probably best for her to start finding out where people landed now, to know where she should keep a look out for neighbors. Mautte is a land of abundance, but one can never be too wary about not encroaching on territory.
